Can you tell I’m feeling festive with an all red look for a day of gift shopping and coffee in Central? Christmas is right around the corner so like everyone, I’m finalising secret Santa gift shopping for my family and thinking of twice the number of gifts for Tim since December is also his birthday month! (Watch this space for a “Men’s Gift Guide” to help you in your Christmas shopping.)
Hong Kong is refusing to let the temperature drop, so much so that tights are
completely optional even during December. I’m taking full advantage and am
rocking this red floral dress from Tobi (sans tights) with dramatic flared
sleeves that are so on trend this season. I’m not one to divide my wardrobe by
season (the thought of packing and unpacking winter and summer clothes in boxes
twice a year kinda fills me with dread) and love to stick to pieces of clothing
that are good no matter the season. This darker, wine red dress is fall/winter
appropriate and would look great with thick tights, boots and layered under a
cosy knit. Conversely, the pretty floral print would be ideal for Summer, just
think wide brim sun hat and chunky heel sandals for beach holiday vibes.
To break up the red, I’m wearing the small Faye shoulder bag from Chloe in teal. I tend to avoid large shopper totes for a day of shopping as I prefer keeping my phone and wallet close in a small cross body bag like this one, and carrying my shopping in a separate tote. This saves me having to dig around at the till for my wallet were I to pretend I was Mary Poppins. If you’re also digging this small portable size and the contrast of soft suede and leather with metal hardware, Jerome Dreyfuss is a designer to check out to instill cross body envy!
FYI, You’ll be seeing much more of this red bomber jacket that I thrifted in Tokyo. I bought this in the men’s section of a second hand shop in Harajuku and am completely and utterly obsessed. I love how ridiculously oversized this hangs on me for pure comfort factor, and that coupled with the large tiger motif and bold red colour makes this my favourite statement jacket! I’m a real advocate for thrifting/second hand shopping and Japan does it like no one else. I’ll see used Ralph Lauren shirts given a new lease of life with a chop for a cropped style which is then added to the sleeves for a flared/bell design. Or old denim jackets covered with unique, vibrant badges for an updated look. It’s an insanely creative and a brilliant way to recycle clothing.
I'm also wearing my favourite watch of the moment, the Daniel Wellington Petite Ashfield in 32mm. The sleek black look pairs with absolutely everything in my wardrobe, I never leave home without it!
